Why ALT

There is no shortage of accredited testing laboratories in Thailand. There is a shortage of laboratories that do acoustics. Almost all accredited acoustic work in the country sits inside government institutes, and ALT is the privately owned laboratory specialising in it.

That is not a boast about quality. It is a statement about where the work goes. Several larger laboratories subcontract their acoustic calibration to us, because building a reverberation suite and maintaining an acoustics traceability chain is not worth it for a handful of jobs a year. If your instrument or your specimen has been through another Thai laboratory, there is a reasonable chance the acoustics part was measured here.

ALT does not sell, design or supply the products it tests. We do not distribute instruments, we do not manufacture acoustic materials, and we do not take on the design work for the buildings we measure. This is not a marketing position — it is a condition of accreditation. ISO/IEC 17025 clause 4.1 requires a laboratory to identify and eliminate threats to its impartiality.

Where a client needs design advice, we refer them to independent acoustic consultants of the client’s own choosing. The practical consequence is simple: nobody here is better off if your number comes out high or low.

Turnaround is typically around two weeks from receipt of a complete specimen and an agreed scope, with an urgent option when a deadline requires it. Tell us the date you are working to at enquiry rather than after booking, and we will say plainly whether it is achievable.

On price we are neither the cheapest nor the most expensive route available in Thailand. What we compete on is the time it takes and how the job is handled while it is running.

ALT holds ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation for acoustics, certificate 24-LB0054, issued by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute. Every service on this site states plainly whether it falls inside that accredited scope, whether it is traceable but outside it, or whether it is R&D measurement claiming no accreditation at all. The point of saying so is that you know before you order whether the certificate will satisfy your regulator, your customer or your tender committee — rather than finding out after you have paid.

Most laboratories do one or the other. ALT calibrates sound level meters, microphones, sound calibrators, dosimeters, vibration transducers and multichannel DAQ systems — and tests acoustic materials, partitions, doors, windows, enclosures and machinery. One supplier, one contract review, and a single traceability chain behind both the instrument that took the reading and the product that was measured.

Contract review happens before we quote, not after we invoice. Specifications frequently name a superseded edition of a standard, or name an ISO standard where the market actually expects the ASTM equivalent. Send us the clause and we will tell you what it means in practice before you spend anything — so you do not pay for a test whose report is then rejected.

Reverberation chambers, a semi-anechoic room and impedance tubes, at our own facility in Sai Mai. Your specimen does not cross a border, clear customs, or wait in a queue at an overseas laboratory — and if one arrives damaged you can send a replacement the same week rather than the next quarter.

Before a sound insulation test we scan the specimen with an acoustic camera, so a leak at the fitting never understates your product. The report describes what you made, not how it happened to be installed that morning.

Reports and certificates are issued in English, because that is what overseas clients, certification bodies and tender committees need. Correspondence can be in Thai or English.
